The Best Way to Drink Tea

January 20, 2010

I’m really a coffee drinker at heart. I like it’s bold punch in the nose in the morning when I’m barely awake. But lately I’ve been getting into tea. And my favorite way to drink it is out of the Tetsubin teapot from Joyce Chen. It’s culturally significant, visually stunning and, frankly, it’s a workhorse.

Each pot is hand-crafted with cast iron to ensure even heat distribution. But the best part is that it will keep your tea hot for close to an hour. And while each pot comes in varying sizes, even the 16-ounce one packs a wallop — it’s close to 4 pounds of muscle and is utterly indestructible. (This is one kitchen gadget that will last as long as you will.)

Fashioned with a low, seamless profile, all Tetsubin teapots feature an intricate and meaningful bas-relief design that twines across the body and lid. My pot is part of the Chinese Zodiac Series and reflects the Year of the Dragon. Other designs may symbolize such characteristics as strength, wisdom or loyalty — making them great gifts for special occasions.

Just fill the stainless-steel basket with loose leaf tea, fill the pot with hot water, steep and enjoy.
