Door Number Two

May 26, 2011

Today, I resigned as a Locals on Living partner with the the Cincinnati Enquirer. You may not have even known I was part of this network — a hand selected group of bloggers who reap the benefits of daily promotion from the city’s biggest newspaper.

I started Epi-Ventures because I was following a passion. A deep-seated love of food, of chefs and of the kitchen — a place I still gravitate to when I’m feeling off balance. But behind door number one — an ad agency and a cookbook. Two opportunities that came because I decided to start writing a blog about food. A very small venture with very big consequences.

Today, more than ever, I know that following a straight line was never my gig. And as I wonder about what could have possibly been behind door number 2 — what new opportunity could have come knocking — I’m certain that I made the right choice.

Words come easier now, as a result of using them daily. They also come with more certainty, with a confidence that I’m not sure I knew was possible before. There’s a sigh of relief to that. One that you can’t hear from your end of the computer screen, but one that practically shakes the floorboards over here.

And guess what else? I turn 29 next week. So maybe, just maybe, the biggest surprise is yet to come.

Sorry to see you leave…I look forward to your cookbook. I think you have a very nice writing style-reminds me very much of Leah Erskin (sp?) who writes a food column for the Chicago Tribune.

It’s not just about the food-it’s the emotion that goes with it, and you have a way of capturing that.

Best to you.

You’re not a chef?

Hey TJ – No, I’ve been in culinary school and did an apprenticeship at Nectar (Mt. Lookout) in my extra time but I’ve never been a chef. Have worked in marketing for my whole career and am now a writer at an ad agency.
